How to get to Icaraizinho de Amontada from Fortaleza

Icaraizinho is about 200 km from Fortaleza, roughly 3 hours by car. There is no airport in the village: everyone comes through the capital of Ceará. Here is how to organise the trip, what to arrange before you fly and what to expect when you arrive.

Fortaleza, the gateway

Fortaleza international airport takes domestic and international flights, and that is where the road to Icaraizinho starts. The drive crosses inland Ceará towards Amontada, with the last stretch already close to the sea.

Count about 3 hours by car for the 200 km, a little more with stops. People landing in the middle of the night often prefer to sleep in Fortaleza and leave in the morning, but the drive is also done at night by drivers who know the road.

Transfer options

There are three usual ways to cover the distance: private transfer, a shared ride with other students, or a rental car. Cabana do Kite helps organise your arrival and puts you in touch with drivers who do the route regularly. Prices depend on the day, the time and the number of passengers: they are on request, confirmed in writing before the trip.

If you would rather drive, a rental car gives you the freedom to visit neighbouring spots and to come back from Moitas or Patos after a downwinder. In that case, let us know: we will tell you where to park and how to reach the beach.

What to arrange before you fly

  • Dates and arrival time: send your flight number and scheduled time so we can organise the transfer.
  • Luggage: if you bring your own gear, tell us the size of your board bag — it changes the vehicle needed.
  • Accommodation: Pousada País Tropical is a few minutes' walk from the Cabana; we can book it together with your lessons.
  • Lessons: level, dates and format (private or duo) so we can book the right instructor.

Everything is confirmed in writing, on WhatsApp or by email, with the dates, the package and the conditions. No surprises on arrival.

When to arrive

The wind season runs from July to January, peaking from August to October. For your first lessons, 18 to 22 knots is ideal — July, early August and November are usually gentler. September and October bring stronger wind, better for riders who already jump. From February to June the wind is irregular.

For the high season, book accommodation and lessons ahead: good pousadas in Icaraizinho are limited. The season guide breaks it down month by month.

Once you are here

You can cross the village on foot. From the Cabana you have the main beach in front of you, the lagoon for your first lessons and the starting points of the downwinders a few minutes away. The guide to kitesurfing in Brazil helps plan the rest of the trip.

Getting back to Fortaleza

The way back follows the same road: about 200 km and roughly 3 hours by car to the airport. Arrange the time in advance and leave a margin, especially on an international flight day — the road is quiet, but nobody enjoys chasing a check-in desk.

If your last session is in the morning, you can ride, have lunch at the Cabana and leave in the early afternoon. We store the equipment and help organise the departure.

Combining kiting and day trips

Many people come only for the kiting, but the region offers more: sunset on top of the dunes, reachable on foot or by buggy, Lagoa do Uruaú, one of the most beautiful lagoons in Ceará, and Jericoacoara, 90 km away, worth a two or three day escape.

On the rare windless days, artisanal fishing and jangada trips combine local culture with calm sea. Cabana do Kite organises these outings with trusted local guides.
